Garden Plans

When you’re making your garden plans, you need to ask yourself a few basic questions. Now some of the questions may be: What is feasible for the amount of space I have? What kind of materials would I like to incorporate in my garden layout? In my garden plans, do I see using ponds or fountains?

These questions and others like them then can guide your garden design plan ideas, though you need to keep in mind that you have to be committed here to spend the proper amount of time in the garden’s upkeep for your plan to work. Understand too that plans need to be realistic. So when this done, take a stroll around your property and make notes on what you want to keep and what you don’t like about your existing yard. In addition, check with your township or homeowner’s association to see if there are any limits or restrictions on fences or if any permits are required.

Next, draw up your garden layout on paper. Here you can draw circled areas to represent the patio, garden bed ideas, the garden shed and link everything together with stone paths and lawn areas as an example. Keep in mind to draw everything to scale. Further, there should be flow of movement from one area to the next almost as if they were rooms.

This finished, focus on each “room” and add garden arrangement ideas. Perhaps a swing in the shady part of the garden where the hostas will thrive. Or maybe a bench on patio stones in the rose garden; or a swirled path that will lead to the pond with goldfishes.

The most important thing to remember about garden plans is to preplan first so that you know exactly where everything goes.
